Phil Simms got an unexpected call from one of his former employers this offseason, and when he was given the chance to get back on the air after a year-long hiatus, the legendary Giants quarterback jumped at the chance.

After calling and analyzing NFL games for nearly three decades across three television networks, he is now calling college football games on a streaming service .

Last weekend, Simms worked the first of the three games he scheduled to call this season for Peacock — part of NBC, where he worked between 1995 and 1998 — when he watched Illinois crush Western Illinois. On Saturday, Simms will make a short drive down from his Bergen County home to Piscataway to serve as the analyst for Rutgers’ meeting with Miami of Ohio (3:30 p.m).
