More than a billion dollars will be on the line on the night of Saturday, Sept. 6, as Powerball players across the United States vie for the chance to win the second-largest lottery jackpot in the country's history.

The Powerball drawing for the staggering $1.8 billion jackpot will be at 10:59 p.m. ET, and most would-be players have an hour or two before the drawing to purchase a ticket.

Players may want to keep in mind that the chances of winning this massive jackpot are quite low, as the odds are about 1 in 292 million, according to the lottery association. The Census Bureau estimates that roughly 342 million people live in the United States.

Here are the Powerball ticket purchase cutoff times for each participating U.S. state. Most states close one to two hours before the drawing.
