RALEIGH (WNCN) - For the second consecutive game, N.C. State's defense has helped the team seal a tightly contested win.

Cian Slone stopped Virginia's final drive with an interception in the end zone, helping the Wolfpack escape with a 35-31 win.

N.C. State (2-0) also stopped the Cavaliers on fourth down from the Wolfpack's 8-yard line earlier in the fourth quarter.

Hollywood Smothers ran for 140 yards and two touchdowns for NC State, while CJ Bailey ran for two scores and threw for another.

N.C. State trailed at the half, but rallied with 21 points in the third quarter to retake the lead. The defenses took over in the fourth quarter, as no points were scored.
