TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WSAV) — Westie the sea turtle now swims the Sargasso Sea after three years of care.

Hundreds of people got together at Tybee Island on Saturday morning to celebrate the departure of the first sea turtle with a satellite tracker, Westie.

Westie first got to the Tybee Island Marine Science Center (TIMSC) in 2022 as a 21-gram hatchling and ever since, she has served as a Marine Debris Ambassador and has become a visitor favorite.

Westie took her first splash in the ocean, surrounded by the support of visitors and locals.
