Georgia football ’s game with Austin Peay is in a weather delay.

The game on Saturday, Sept. 6, was stopped at about 4:05 p.m. with the teams already in the locker room for halftime. Georgia is leading 14-3.

Another lightning strike was seen at about 4:31 p.m. and the skies opened up with rain, prompting those who remained in their seats to seek shelter. Another lightning strike came at 4:35 p.m.

NCAA lightning policy mandates 30 minutes must pass between lightning strikes that occur within 8 miles from where a contest is held before play can resume. That doesn't include a usual 10 minutes to warm up.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart addressed the possibility of a weather delay before the Ole Miss game last season.

“What would I change if it was a downpour, if it was a lightning delay,”
