KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — As Tennessee football season kickstarts, dozens are docking their boats along the Tennessee River near Neyland Stadium. They're known as the Vol Navy.

The tradition started when a radio broadcaster, George Mooney, traveled to football games by boat. Since then, dozens of people dock their boats on the water outside of Neyland Stadium to and tailgate before the Volunteers play.

“It's the highlight of the year for me to be active in the Vol Navy and come up and hang out with like-minded friends who enjoy the Vols and enjoy boating,” Vol Navy Paul Kelly said. “I can think of no greater legacy than to instill a love of boating in the Navy into your family and friends."
