Aryna Sabalenka successfully defended her US Open title with a straight-set 6-3, 7-6 win over Amanda Anisimova . The Belarusian finally put to bed her Grand Slam undoings this year with a sweet end in New York as she captured her fourth Grand Slam title.

Anisimova made her second successive Grand Slam final. Despite improving her results from the double bagel she recieved from Iga Swiatek in the Wimbledon final, the American couldn’t get into the match at all.

Sabalenka has ended an 11-year drought of a US Open title defense. The last one to do that was Serena Williams in 2014.

The top seed had lost two Grand Slam finals earlier on in this season. She saw her Australian Open title defense snapped by Madison Keys before a heartbreaking Roland Garros final defeat to Coco Gauff
