Dozens marched around City Hall to show the people of Red Deer that recovery is possible.

The 11th annual Red Deer Recovery Day was held in City Hall Park on Saturday, Sept. 6. The event featured speeches from people recovering from addiction, family members who were impacted by addiction, Red Deer Mayor Ken Johnston and more.

"It wasn't too long ago that there was a war waged on drugs and it made people afraid to admit they were part of that lifestyle because of the repercussions you would face," said Krista Black, Red Deer Recovery Day organizer."

"People had to recover in secrecy in anonymous programs. As a society we're changing our perceptions and beliefs on what addiction means. It's about mental health, it's not a moral failing. It's not a choice."
