Ari Aster has made a name for himself as a filmmaker willing to make bold choices and push the boundaries when it comes to divisive, uncomfortable material. Love them or hate them, all of Aster’s films are successful in starting interesting debates about their themes and interpretations. But, while Aster skewed towards horror early on in his career, he has proven to be adept at dark comedy and social satire with his last two films , Eddington and Beau is Afraid . His films have definitely tackled modern themes, but Aster is clearly a massive cinephile who has a wealth of knowledge about classic and international cinema, having previously stated that his two favorite performances of all time are David Thewlis in Naked, and Isabelle Huppert in The Piano
