Trampolines have gone flying and trees have been uprooted as strong winds hammered Perth with one suburb recording the strongest wind gust in 35 years.

The intense winds exceeded expectations despite a severe weather warning being issued by the Bureau of Meteorology on Wednesday.

The Bureau predicted strong west to north-westerly winds averaging 50-60km/h with damaging forces of up to 100km/h.

At about 7pm on Wednesday, a gust measuring 117km/h ripped through the Jandakot area.

This gust is the strongest wind recorded there since 1990, exceeding the previous record of 113km/h.
