SPEEDWAY, Ind. — An Indianapolis man living with terminal lung cancer made a lifelong dream come true Wednesday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

With IMS President Doug Boles behind the wheel, Doug Smith turned laps around the iconic speedway in a Corvette Supercar at speeds of 115 mph.

Smith, who is in hospice care at Morning Light Home near Keystone Avenue and East 52nd Street, carried a sign reading "Live life as if it's your last lap." After speeding around the track, Smith knelt to kiss the famous "Yard of Bricks," honoring his love of racing and the memory of his late wife, a spokesperson for Morning Light Home said.

Boles helped make Smith's wish come true after reading about his dream on social media.
