HAMBURG, N.Y. — Frontier High School made history on Saturday by hosting the first-ever sanctioned outdoor high school volleyball match in New York State, drawing a large crowd of students, families, and community members.

The varsity matches took place on a football field transformed into a volleyball court for the event.

The idea for the outdoor match was inspired by a similar event held in Nebraska a few years ago. Nick Penberthy, varsity boys volleyball coach at Frontier, said the event was a special moment for the student athletes.

"For these student athletes, it is a moment that they will not forget for the rest of their lives. This is a once-in-a-lifetime event," Penberthy told 2 On Your Side.
