Cronulla will contest the grading of Nicho Hynes’ hip-drop tackle at the judiciary after Canterbury’s chief medical officer wrote to the NRL advising that Marcelo Montoya’s ankle injury is not as bad as first feared.

Hynes is facing a one to two-week ban that has rocked the Sharks’ finals campaign, with a grade 2 dangerous contact charge set to rub him out of Saturday’s sudden death clash against Sydney Roosters.

Key to their challenge will be correspondence from Bulldogs chief medico Dr Peter Lorentzos, who has advised the NRL that Montoya’s scan results late on Sunday returned far more positive than first feared.
