A pilot was fortunate to escape with minor injuries after his seaplane crashed and sank to the bottom of Moosehead Lake in Greenville, Maine, on Saturday morning.

State police say the Bangor Regional Communications Center was notified around 8:55 a.m. of the incident that occurred during Greenville's annual International Seaplane Splash-In.

Maine Game Wardens, local fire and rescue, the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office, and the Federal Aviation Administration all responded to the scene, and learned 76-year-old Barry Holtz, of Fairport, New York, was attempting to land his Grumman G-44A Widgeon onto the lake when he crashed.
