MANHATTAN — Kansas State football went into the week needing to show something that could instill confidence heading into the remainder of the season.

It didn’t happen.

Instead, the Wildcats are searching for answers after a 24-21 loss to Army on Sept. 6 at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. The loss comes a week after needing to rally late to beat FCS North Dakota, and when Army lost to FCS Tarleton State.

Army quarterback Cale Hellums, a backup making his first career start, ran in a 14-yard touchdown with 2:52 left in the game to take a three-point lead. The Wildcats (1-2, 0-1 Big 12) got into Army territory on their final drive, but an Avery Johnson interception with 1:35 left ended the game.
