NEOGA, Ill. (WAND) — A person is dead after an accident involving a pedestrian and a vehicle on I-57 Saturday afternoon.

It happened in the southbound lane near milepost 172 just after 3:30 p.m. According to the Neoga Fire Protection District , first responders arrived at the area after reports of a woman who was hit by a vehicle.

The district confirmed that one person died.

The section of I-57 southbound from Neoga to Effingham is closed until further notice as officials investigate.
