BOSSIER CITY, La. – The 43rd Annual Super Derby returned to Louisiana Downs on Saturday, reviving one of the region’s most celebrated horse racing traditions.

First run in 1980, the Super Derby quickly gained national prominence, drawing top trainers, jockeys, and thoroughbreds from across the country. Known as a premier race for 3-year-olds, the event has produced a legacy of champions and memorable finishes that have helped put Louisiana Downs on the national racing map.

Officials at Louisiana Downs said this year’s Super Derby showcased not only fierce competition on the track, but also a festival-like atmosphere for fans, with special events and entertainment surrounding race day.
