It is that time of year again — nights are getting cooler, the first leaves are falling, high school football and the other fall sports are well underway, and school bells are ringing.

It has been 45 years since the start of my senior year at Lake-Lehman, and I remember it like it was yesterday. Our class had a remarkable run that year: a state championship in wrestling, the school’s first-ever league championship in basketball, other championships and a nationally recognized band that was second to none.

While the achievements are unforgettable, the memories that truly endure are not about the grades or trophies. They are of the people — adults and friends — and the experiences we shared.
