Cheetos and Coca-Cola; potato chips and cereal. We all know they’re teeming with added sugars.

But what about low-fat yogurt, spaghetti sauce, chocolate milk — even that perennial midwestern favorite, ketchup?

“Things like even granola bars, which you think is really healthy, or muesli, those things can really contain a lot of sugars,” said Laurie Syring, a dietician and clinical nutrition manager at ProMedica Flower Hospital.

Requiring a master’s degree and certification, dietitians are found in hospitals, nursing homes, sports clinics, and even in grocery stores and telehealth services, where they’ve boomed since the coronavirus pandemic by providing individuals with the chance to improve their diet from their home.
