EAST LANSING -- Michigan State got its payback, it just took a little longer.

A year after suffering their first defeat of the season at Boston College, the Spartans returned the favor with a thrilling win of their own by topping the Eagles 42-40 in double overtime Saturday night.

Quarterback Aidan Chiles ran for a 3-yard touchdown and then hit Omari Kelly for the game-winning 2-point conversion to cap a career-best night and the nonconference matchup.

Boston College, which beat the Spartans 23-19 last year, forced overtime with a late field goal and reached the end zone on both of its OT possessions. But the Eagles missed on their 2-point try in the second overtime, setting up Chiles’ heroics.
