GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — LMCU Ballpark saw a large turnout ahead of Saturday’s Whitecaps game to commemorate the lives lost by first responders during the September 11 terrorist attacks.

Families and first responders made the trip and climbed up and down each row of the stadium, matching the 110 stores of each tower.

Richard Rose, the lieutenant of the Algoma Fire Department, grew up in New Jersey. He remembers seeing the Twin Towers from a distance as a child.

“I used to be able to see them,” Rose said. “So hearing that I could picture the buildings and picture in my mind what was happening.”

He, like everyone else climbing, started the trek by saying the name of a first responder killed on September 11th, and ringing the bell.
