COLUMBIA — South Carolina football 's 38-10 win over SC State on Sept. 6 was far from perfect.

After two non-conference games, South Carolina opens SEC play by hosting Vanderbilt on Sept. 13, which just beat Virginia Tech 44-20. The Gamecocks beat the Hokies 24-1 in the season opener on Aug. 31.

Even though South Carolina has two wins, coach Shane Beamer said a lot has to be better.

"Every area," he said. "Offense, defense, special teams, we need to improve on all of them . . . we need to be better in all three phases."

The No. 11 Gamecocks (2-0) had their home game delayed by nearly 2½ hours due to weather, and didn't kick off in Williams-Brice Stadium until after 9 p.m. ET.
