Of the soda makers that once ruled in New Jersey, Boylan is still around but in New York City.

North Jersey sodas came in glass bottles and were delivered, sometimes in cases with mixed flavors.

Before supermarket shelves carried the same national brands from coast to coast, soda in North Jersey was local, perhaps even tribal.

Bottled locally out of soda works in Paterson, Clifton, Garfield, Hackensack and other places, it came in glass containers by the wooden crate, delivered to corner stores, taverns and pizzerias and even directly to homes. Most of those companies are now gone. One of the most historic, Boylan Bottling, continues to operate. However, it now calls New York City home.
