Two lucky players brought an end to a winnerless Powerball streak that lasted 42 draws on Saturday, Sept. 6, landing the second-largest jackpot in United States history
Approaching the two-billion-dollar mark, the Sept. 6 Powerball jackpot clocked in around an eye-popping $1.8 billion. The two winners, one located in Missouri and one in Texas , can opt for a one-time lump sum payment of $410.3 million or $893.5 million annually, each (before taxes, of course).
The winning Texas ticket was sold at a gas station in Fredericksburg, according to the Texas Lottery. The winners have not yet been identified.
Saturday's jackpot is second only to the $2.04 billion won in California on Nov. 7, 2022. The last time the jackpot was hit was back in May when a ticket was sold in California.
