In the much-anticipated debut of head coach Bill Belichick last week, the North Carolina Tar Heels looked dazed, confused and thoroughly overmatched … as if they had brought a butter knife to a chainsaw fight.

What this was wasn’t football.

Which is to say the Tar Heels laid a dinosaur egg in a nationally televised loss to TCU.

TCU looked angry. UNC looked lost.

“They outplayed us, outcoached us, and they were just better than we were tonight,” Belichick said afterward. “That’s all there was to it. They did a lot more things right than we did.”

Ya think?

It was so lopsided and uninteresting that, when ESPN announcer Kirk Herbstreit was caught on a hot mic following a commercial break, some viewers thought they heard him say, “They’re bad.” As in the Tar Heels.
