NEW YORK, N.Y. — The New York Historical Society will debut a major exhibition this fall, “The New York Sari,” exploring the history and cultural significance of one of the world’s oldest garments and its lasting impact on New York City.
Tracing the sari’s journey from South Asia to New York, the exhibition highlights how trade, colonialism and migration transformed the garment into a global symbol.
Once regarded as exotic, the sari is now woven into the city’s cultural fabric and embraced by artists, entrepreneurs, scientists, community leaders and changemakers.
