CLEARWATER, Fla. (KAIT) - A Diamond Pioneer and Diamond Hog great made his pro debut Saturday night.

Gage Wood had 5 strikeouts in 2 innings for the Clearwater Threshers, the Single-A affiliate of the Phillies. He allowed 1 hit, 1 earned run, and 2 walks in a 6-2 loss. Wood threw 40 pitches, 22 were for strikes. He recorded 3 strikeouts in the 1st inning.

The Batesville native was the 26th overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft. Wood recorded 9 wins and 7 saves over the last 3 seasons at Arkansas. He had 167 strikeouts in 108 innings on the mound. Wood started his Razorback career as a reliever and worked his way to the starting rotation as a sophomore and a junior.
