Brits with a mobile phone or tablet may still be recovering after receiving an emergency alert from their device at 3pm today. A loud siren should have gone off, or your phone may have vibrated with a message flashing on screen.
The UK Emergency Alert is part of a national government test used to warn people about severe weather , flooding and fires. They are typically sent by emergency services or government departments/bodies.
The siren and/or vibration - which should have gone off even if your device is on silent - was pipped to last around 10 seconds. Your phone will have been locked until you acknowledged the warning by pressing 'ok'.
Remember, this was just a test and you don't need to take any action.
