With rising hunger rates, the Food Bank of Northern Indiana is encouraging the community to volunteer and donate this September.

September is Hunger Action Month, and with food insecurity reaching its highest rate in the country in over a decade, the Food Bank is pushing the community to take action.

Tuesday, September 9 is Hunger Action Day. City lights will turn orange to recognize the day, and workplaces, clubs and churches are encouraged to organize a food drive to help restock the Food Bank’s warehouse shelves.

They’re encouraging community members to volunteer at the Food Bank and its 115 partner agencies in the six-county service area and to tour the facility to learn more about its programs.
