The lap seen around Baltimore and the world is one of longevity, and maybe even a little exhaustion. For a day in September 1995, Cal Ripken Jr., a native son of Baltimore, was the center of the sports universe after having played in 2,131 consecutive games. It was the day Ripken earned the moniker "Iron Man." From July 1, 1982, to Sept. 6, 1995, Ripken was in the Orioles' lineup every day, topping the record set by the great Lou Gehrig.
