A run has been held at Montgomery Whitewater to help students in Montgomery Public Schools with autism or other sensory disorders.

The school system’s Department of Special Education and the Zach Knight State Farm Insurance Agency hosted a 5K and 10K run yesterday, called “Run with the Senses.” About 50 runners participated.

Organizers say they hope the runners left with a sense of camaraderie and a knowledge of those who have sensory issues.

“It means a lot to our school system, it means a lot to our children, it makes us feel like they are not forgotten that they matter. They are our future and we just really appreciate the community environment involvement and support,” Katrina Jackson, the executive director for special education for Montgomery Public Schools told Action 8 News.
