LONG BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- A 3-year-old boy in Long Beach was killed Saturday when he was hit by a vehicle after running into the street, according to police.

It happened just before 6:30 p.m. near Artesia Boulevard and Rose Avenue.

The Long Beach Police Department said a man was heading westbound on Artesia Boulevard when his vehicle struck the child who had run into the street.

The boy was rushed to hospital where he later died.

The driver remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Police said speed, distracted driving, and impaired driving do not appear to have contributed to the collision.
