The National Weather Service confirmed a brief tornado touchdown in Central New York .

Around 6 PM. on September 4, a strong thunderstorm rolled through northern Oneida County. As it got closer to Ava, the storm’s rotation tightened up, and that’s when a weak tornado briefly touched down. It was on the ground for about 8 minutes.

The twister was rated an EF-0, the weakest on the Enhanced Fujita scale, but it still packed a punch with estimated winds up to 80 miles per hour. It stayed on the ground for about three miles, carving a path roughly 100 yards wide at its widest point.
