Erin Patterson is set to be sentenced today in the Supreme Court for the murders of three of her in-laws. In July 2023, Patterson was found guilty of lacing beef Wellingtons with toxic death cap mushrooms, resulting in the deaths of her estranged husband’s parents, Don and Gail Patterson, and his aunt, Heather Wilkinson. She was also convicted of the attempted murder of Heather's husband, Ian Wilkinson.

The prosecution has requested a life sentence without the possibility of parole for Patterson. Her attorney acknowledged that a life sentence is warranted but urged Justice Christopher Beale to consider a minimum term. This would allow Patterson the chance for parole when she reaches her 80s.

The trial lasted nine weeks and included testimony from 50 witnesses. The jury concluded that Patterson intentionally poisoned her guests during a lunch gathering on July 29, 2023. Despite the conviction, Patterson has consistently maintained her innocence throughout the proceedings.

As the court prepares for sentencing, the case has drawn significant public attention, highlighting the tragic circumstances surrounding the deaths and the impact on the families involved.
