President Donald Trump vowed that he's ready to hit Russia and its president, Vladimir Putin , with a new round of sanctions amid its largest air strike since it invaded Ukraine in 2022.

Trump replied yes when asked if he was ready to move to the "second stage" of sanctions against Russia while speaking to reporters on the White House lawn ahead of his flight to New York City for the U.S. Open Final Round on Sunday (September 7). The president had previously threatened to impose sanctions and tariffs prior to the two meeting for a summit in Alaska last month.
