TELLICO PLAINS, Tenn. (WATE) — A Tellico Plains couple lost everything in a house fire on Sunday August 31. 6 News talked with them about the recovery process. One night, Kristy and Casey Tovey fell asleep watching the television on their couch and woke up to their worst nightmare. At 3:40 a.m., the smoke alarm went off.

"I took it off the ceiling, blew on it. And when I took it off, I realized I saw something. And there was, some black smoke starting to come over the door, and I was like, oh, no. And I put my hand up on the door jamb to feel if there was any heat coming through, and it was so hot I couldn't keep my hand on the door. And I told her, I was like, we got to go now,” explained Casey. They escaped the house and called 911. Help arrived quickly, but it was already too late. Eve
