Love , Brooklyn by Rachael Abigail Holder was a standout in a big expansion on a strong specialty weekend with some nice debuts, solid holdovers and a surprise haul for an animated faith-based film.

Greenwich Entertainment opened Love, Brooklyn exclusively at the Angelika Film Center in New York last week to $55k for the four-day holiday weekend. It’s looking at an estimated second weekend gross of $120k in an expansion to 110 theaters for a cume of circa $180k. Holder’s feature directorial debut stars André Holland, Nicole Beharie, DeWanda Wise and Roy Wood Jr.
