HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hundred of people gathered to celebrate Native American heritage on Saturday.

The 49th annual Honolulu Intertribal Powwow kicked off at Magic Island.

Among those in attendance, Lummi Nation Blackhawk Singers and the Bird Singers from the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians.

Rosanna Rombawa, of Oahu Intertribal Council said, “It’s really about coming together as indigenous people from Turtle Island and here in the Hawaiian community to come together and share traditions and perpetuate our cultures together and share that with the local community.”

The free event honors indigenous traditions through music, dance and food.
