FOXBORO — Mike Vrabel’s Patriots ran out of gas as rain poured down on Gillette Stadium in an unseasonably cool season opener.

Quarterback Drake Maye and the rest of the Patriots’ offense were nearly blanked in the second half of the 20-13 loss to the Raiders. Vrabel’s tenure as Patriots head coach starts with a loss.

Leading 10-7 after the second quarter, the Patriots’ second-half drives ended with an interception, two three-and-outs, four punts and a last-minute field goal.

Maye went a disappointing 30-of-46 for 287 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He was strip-sacked in the second half and struggled under pressure with an interception. He also added four rushing attempts for 11 yards.
