KENNEWICK, Wash. – The City of Kennewick is considering a significant contract extension with WM for solid waste services, with the current contract set to expire on December 31, 2025.

The city is negotiating a 10-year contract with WM, formerly known as Waste Management, to continue solid waste and residential recycling services.

Proposed changes include revising the recycling program to a 96-gallon cart collected every other week, retaining six free dumps and discontinuing the fall leaf pickup program.

The service rate schedule proposes a monthly rate of $21.68 for a 35-gallon garbage cart through 2026. The rate in 2027 would jump to $27.75.

According to the proposal, the new WM rates would remain among the lowest in Washington.
