LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - As a part of Williamston’s Red Cedar Day celebration, the city’s parks commission restored a part of Old Mill Park’s History, unveiling an over 130-year-old steel turbine.

The parks commission says the “steel Leffel turbine is the last remaining artifact from the water-powered mill, which drove Williamston’s industry for over 100 years.”

About 20 years ago, Fred Campbell was driving in Williamston when he stumbled upon a red barn. Nearby was a 16-inch turbine from 1893.

“I’m always curious about back roads. So, I drove over into the area, and here was this interesting piece of metal,” said Campbell. “So, we worked on it to take some of the rocks and debris out of it, and 20 years later, Earl has arranged to have it [showcased in Old Mill Park].”
