A former Nashua man convicted of murdering a man during an armed robbery in 1991 was denied parole last week, but is eligible to reappear after spending six months in a halfway house, according to parole officials.
Eduardo Lopez Jr., 51, was 17 years old when he was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole before being resentenced in 2018 to 45 years to life. He is one of five New Hampshire convicts allowed to have a new sentencing hearing after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2012 that mandatory sentences of life without the possibility of parole are unconstitutional for juvenile offenders.
Lopez’s appearance before the parole board last Thursday came after a judge suspended the remaining 6½ years of his sentence. He spent 34 years behind bars.
