Liberal MP Alex Hawke has denied that he “berated” Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price’s staff, after she accused him of contributing to the “woman problem” in the Liberal Party.

Mr Hawke told Sky News his discussion with Senator Price’s office was brief and professional.

It comes after Ms Price claimed that Mr Hawke had abused her staff, failed to support her and had acted in a “cowardly and inappropriate” way.

“I rang somebody at random and asked, ‘Can I speak to your boss?’” Mr Hawke said of the interaction.

“I might have had a one to two minute conversation with her staffer… I didn’t berate anyone.”

He later called Ms Price directly and advised her that if she had been told that he was angry, “that wasn’t correct”.
