The alleged head of Sydney’s notorious Alameddine crime family will remain on bail despite concerns he cannot be sufficiently tracked by police because of new legislation banning the use of privatised electronic monitoring in NSW.
Prosecutors on Monday sought to have Ali Elmoubayed’s strict bail revoked ahead of Friday’s deadline for all private electronic monitoring in the state to be discontinued, arguing no alternative conditions were strict enough to mitigate the risks presented by the 32-year-old.
Elmoubayed is the most senior of several underworld figures facing serious charges, including murder and large-scale drug trafficking offences, who are now on bail without being monitored after a flurry of hearings in recent months. The legislation, which passed NSW parliament in May, did
