CHARLOTTE, N.C. — President Donald Trump spoke briefly Monday about the deadly stabbing on the light rail in Charlotte's South End that's receiving national attention.

Iryna Zarutska, 23, was stabbed and killed on the LYNX Blue Line on Aug. 22 near the light rail station along Camden Road, where East Boulevard and West Boulevard meet in South End. Decarlos Brown is charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing.

Trump addressed the shocking attack while speaking to the Religious Liberty Commission, which he established earlier this year to advise the White House. Trump's comments come one day after the president said he would be briefed on the assault.
