A middle-aged man in a flat cap is shouting into a loud hailer beside a dual carriageway in Oldham .

'Get them out, get them out', he chants as a crowd of around 150 anti-immigration protesters waving England flags and Union Jacks join in. That was the scene outside the Victoria Hotel in Chadderton on Saturday, August 23.

It was one of a several, often angry, demonstrations outside hotels housing asylum seekers that have taken place across Greater Manchester in recent weeks. Dozens more have taken place nationwide.

Outside the Victoria Hotel, which is surrounded by steel fencing, one of its residents Ahmed Aziz, from Kabul in Afghanistan, says he has been living there for six months, sharing a room with another young man, while he awaits the result of his asylum claim.
