U.S. Army veteran Gary Harrer of Howland discusses his time in the service. HOWLAND — Though his older brother kept his experience fighting in the Vietnam War to himself, Gary Harrer of Howland still felt compelled to join the military.

Despite not shedding light on those days, Harrer did say that his brother was supportive of his enlistment into the United States Army.
