The latest figures from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) show there are now more than 3.7 million people across Great Britain claiming Personal Independence Payment (PIP). The number of working age people receiving the disability benefits is at an all-time high with reforms planned for next year.
Recent statistics from Social Security Scotland show that at the end of April, some 476,295 people were receiving Adult Disability Payments (ADP), the devolved benefit that has replaced all new claims for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) north of the border.
However, people making a new claim for PIP or ADP may not be aware that a successful award can vary in length. The shortest award is nine months, while the longest is an ongoing award with a ‘light touch’
