Scotland’s largest teaching union has called for the UK Government to review the link between the Normal Pension Age (NPA) and State Pension Age (SPA). The Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS) has joined with education unions across the UK in calling for the review due to falling life expectancy. ‌

Normal Pension Age is the age at which employees normally become eligible to access their occupational pension , this is currently 55 and set to rise to 57 in April 2028. If your birth date is on or before April 5, 1971, you can access your pension at 55 because the change to 57 will not affect you. ‌

State Pension Age is currently 66, but a rise to 67 starts next April and is due to be completed by April 2028. A further rise from 67 to 68 is set to be implemented betwee
