Qantas has quietly increased the number of frequent flyer points needed to redeem business class and premium economy seats on domestic and international routes through its Classic Plus Rewards scheme as the airline pushes to meet ambitious earnings targets for its loyalty division.

In the year to June 30, Qantas recorded 9 per cent growth in underlying earnings before interest and tax from its loyalty business to $556 million, with 10 per cent more points earned and 8 per cent more points redeemed, in large part following the introduction of a new Classic Plus Rewards tier last July.
